I had been trying to find a counseler for Cassidy to see because she has alot of worries and fears and keeps her feelings in. I felt it would be very important to find someone who knows what she is feeling and understands. I searched online and found Jeff's Place, a girl who had lost her brother when she was younger started it. It has groups for kids who have lost a sibling, as well as for parents ( also for kids who have lost a parent). We decided to "give it a whirl". On our way there I was talking to Keith about how much Alec loved the Jimmy Fund, how much he loved everyone there, and how they treated him as their child not a patient. He saw them more than family, and they became family. Just thoughts in my head. When we arived at Jeff's place, they had name tags out on a table, and Cassidy said look and pointed to a name tag with "Alec" on it written all scribbly like a little boy would do. Then as we were sitting, I see a nurse who works at the Jimmy Fund and The "H" ( Children's Hospital), she volunteers at Jeff's place. It was bittersweet to see her, mostly sweet and she understood that it would be hard to see her. It was just,--- I was just having these Jimmy Fund feelings and here is a nurse from there. Then a couple in our group spoke about their son who they lost, his name is "Alec". And we mentioned the name tag and we were told that their was alittle boy their attending another group and his name is "Alec".
I know Alec guided us to this place and was making sure we knew it and that we knew he was with us. On the ride home as I was saying how amazing Alec is with all of these signs, the car in front of us had on their license plate the letters "AB".
Cassidy really liked it, and the Jimmy fund nurse was with her in group, I know it helped her to know she is not alone, and they made it fun, playing games and really being so kind and gentle.
I felt Alec was smiling and so proud that we were doing this for Cassidy and for us.
We welcome your thoughts, stories about Alec, and signs he gives to you. Please share them with us, it will "brighten our day"
