"Hi Sweetie Pie" and he lit up with this great big smile. If I called him sweetie pie, he would say no, only Phyllis can call me that. Phyllis was so gentle and patient and knew Alec's favorite stickers, "Maisy", "Elmo" and for some reason "Ironman".
Alec loved to give nicknames to people. I put some down on this site, the ones I can remember, I know there are so many more, it was his way of making you feel special or making you laugh. He called one of his nurses at the clinic, whose name is Katie, he called her "Sweet Voice Katie", and he'd say doesn't she have the sweetest voice? And she does. And it was how sweet she was to Al, being gentle, talking to him , really listening to him and getting him whatever it was he wanted, usually a certain medical trinket. He'd say where is Sweet voice Katie? That was her name to him.
And the only one who could call him HoneyBun was Rosie, she volunteered at the clinic and she always called Alec-- Honey bun, he loved it, but only from her.
This is my story for the day because I got an e-mail from the Oprah site that said Sweeitie Pie's and Keith pointed it out and we remembered how Al loved when Phyllis called him Sweetie Pie. So not to leave anyone out, I know there are so so so many people who Alec loves and who love Alec, and I will continue to share these stories of all the very special and amazing people who shared in Alec's and our lives.
