It doesn't cost anything and is very quick and easy. We asked Patricia White (resource specialist) at the Jimmy Fund if there was a family that needed help with Christmas this year as we wanted to send in a gift card or a check with money that was raised at our walkathon, and this is the response we got which is very sad.
I am sharing in hopes that others may want to send anything to help this family out. Hello Keith, It’s wonderful to hear from you again. I have a family that could desperately use some help. Patient: Christopher Poulin DOB: 11-25-2015 Dx: Neuroblastoma (August 2017) Patient is the youngest of 7 children of this blended family. Six of the children live at home and the oldest sibling lives elsewhere. This family lost their home to fire a short time ago and are now living in another home which they are renting for $1000/month until December. Mom states at that time if they need to continue to rent that house, they can renegotiate with the landlord. Mom does not work outside the home; dad works as a carpenter but hasn't worked in a while due to the fire and their son's illness. The family receives SSI for their 17 year old daughter who has cerebral palsy (w/c bound). She was severely burned in the fire and required hospitalization and rehab. The family also has access to some money due to funds raised on their behalf after the fire but it is slowly dwindling . Last year their 4 year old daughter had open heart surgery and a month before Christopher was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, maternal grandmother passed away. This family has sustained one loss after another and still manage to smile and be positive throughout their long stay at Boston Childrens. I was just told by Christopher’s paternal grandmother that the house they are currently staying in has no running water due to a broken well and they are being asked to leave so they can sell the property. They are using grandma’s house for showers and are buying jugs of water for drinking and cooking. The family has paid rent through to December and Dana-Farber is trying to access more funds to help with another rent at another location so the gift of $1000 to this family would be such a tremendous help at this time. You can make out the check to Melissa Lindstrom or Christopher Poulin Thank you in advance for helping this wonderful family during the holidays,, Patricia Good morning Laura, I visited with grandma last night at the hospital to ask if you could share the family’s story and she said yes. She also let me know that Christopher’s father got admitted to the hospital for a ruptured colon. They are hoping it will not need surgical intervention but if it does he will need a temporary colostomy. I have never met a family with so much tragedy and distress in their life before. So anything you can do to help put the word out for them would be wonderful. Patricia Any donations to this family can be mailed to: Melissa Lindstrom & Christopher Poulin 772 Alton Carolina rd Charlestown RI 02813 We want to thank everyone who donated toys, books, blankets, Giraffes, money, Gas gift cards, and so much more....
We are always so touched by your generosity and thoughtfulness (A Giraffe themed basket with every item in it having a Giraffe :)... Each and every gift donated put a smile on our face and a hug to our hearts. Knowing you all have Alec in your hearts as you give these gifts. It truly helps us get through Alec's Birthday seeing all the sweet gifts we recieve and putting together gift bags for the patients and their siblings at The Jimmy Fund and Children's Hospital. Our hearts Thank You all so much We will again be collecting toys, books, blankets, stuffed animals and anything children and teens would like to send into the Jimmy Fund & Boston Children's Hospital for Alec's Birthday.
So many have been so kind and generous the last few years and we continue to be amazed at how many donations we recieve... thank you all so much. Any gift small or large is greatly appreciated. These gifts, which we put in individual gift bags for each child patient and their siblings, brightens these kids day and that is what Alec would want. Please help us honor Alec and put a smile on a child's face , trust us it means so much to them. We would like to have all donations by October 20th so we have time to make the gift bags up. Thank You So Much Alec let us know he was on vacation with us last week...
Keith went into the hotel with the room key to find our room which was #427, he tried the Keith a bunch of times and it didn't work so he went to the front desk and told them, they said they fixed it and we all went in to the hotel. As we were walking toward our room we passed room #423 ( and as I saw it, I wished that was our room so I knew Al was with us), but I said to myself at least I got to see and walk by room #423 which I accepted as my sign from Al. Then we got to our room #427 and tried the key over and over and it wouldn't work. Ugh. There was a cleaning lady right there so we asked her for help and she said she'd go call the front desk for us. She came back a few minutes later and said "You are suppose to be in room #423 ", as soon as the words came out, I said I knew it! And our (the same key that said 427 on it) worked right away in room #423... Alec is so Amazing ! It's always hard to go away or do anything without Alec, and him letting us know he is with us just lifts our hearts and makes us smile And yesterday we took Gabs to music time and the singer said to the kids hold up one finger and now we are going to count to 23. and after that They sang Old McDonald had a farm and on that farm he had a Giraffe !! Thank you to everyone who made this Huge donation possible. We are so grateful to everyone who donated, who walked and who helped us raise this money. This check will go to Dr. Kieran's Pediatric Brain Tumor Research and will help the team find better treatments and hopefully cures for children with brain tumors. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You |
